The streets are strangely calm, people seem relaxed. Maybe the system is already starting to prove itself. It’s a few minutes walk from the city center, in a deserted industrial area, that I discover the Temple of Vanity. A former power plant, abandoned for several years, which now has the difficult task of reminding selfie addicts that the world does not revolve around them. A queue of about a hundred people separates me from the entrance, and observing the diversity of its occupants is already therapy in itself. After a good hour of waiting, I finally pass through the huge 6 meter high metal door, to enter this place of appearance culture, a clever mix between a modern church and an ice-cream palace at a carnival. Thousands of mirrors show my face from all angles, the cameras were on me, displaying me on screens with different filters, making me so beautiful that I struggle to recognize myself. In this fortress of self-centeredness, I replace God for a moment, focused on every part of my little person. After a few minutes, it's already too much. I look for the way out of this maze, stuck in a painful spiral where my own reflection prevents me from moving forward. I'm anxious. Cornered, I put a knee on the ground. And it was when I stopped contemplating myself that I saw a line on the ground, guiding me to the exit.
